Poppy's first solo berry basket tips over, and the muddle feels too big — until Finn shares his tidy trick: one kind at a time.
In Glimmer Valley, the late morning breeze hummed through a big blackberry thicket, and Poppy the little grey bunny came carrying her own small basket, all by herself for the very first time. “Today I pick the berries on my own.”
She reached between the leaves and dropped the shiny berries in, one by one, until her basket was nearly full. “Look how many... six... seven... eight.”
Then a soft breeze leaned on the branches, and the little basket tipped over. Berries, leaves and twigs rolled slowly across the mossy ground.
“Oh no,” said Poppy. “It is all mixed up.” She sat down slowly on the moss, and her long grey ears drooped low. “There is too much to tidy.”
Just then Finn the little orange fox padded softly into the thicket, his bushy tail swishing behind him. “Can I show you my tidy trick?”
He sat down beside her on the soft moss and looked at the muddle with her. “Pick one kind at a time. Berries first. Only berries.”
Poppy took a slow breath and looked for round dark berries only — and suddenly the mess did not feel so big. “One... two... three... into the basket.”
When every berry was safely home, Poppy brushed the leaves into a soft green pile, and then she gathered the twigs beside it. “The ground is clean again!”
The breeze swayed the thicket gently, and Poppy stood tall with her basket hugged close. “I did it, one kind at a time.”
Finn smiled, and they sat together in the leafy shade, sharing warm berries while the late morning wind whispered through Glimmer Valley. “That was a lovely morning, Poppy.”
