One bright morning in Glimmer Valley, Milo the little dragon, Poppy the little bunny, and Glimmer the golden firefly walked through the sunny meadow. Soon they came to a little stream, where smooth stepping stones led across the water to a patch of golden flowers.
Poppy wanted to smell the flowers, but the water looked so wide. "What if I slip?" she said, and her long ears drooped low.
Milo hopped onto the first stone and reached a gentle paw back to her. "You don't have to do it all at once," he said. "Just one little stone at a time. I'm right here."
Glimmer floated close, glowing warm and gold. "Let's take a slow breath first," she said. "Breathe in… and out. Nice and calm."
Poppy took a slow, deep breath. In… and out. Then she stepped onto the very first stone. "One stone. I did it!"
"One more," said Milo. "One more."
Poppy hopped to the next stone, and the next, her little cotton tail bouncing with every hop, while Glimmer glowed beside her all the way across the stream.
"I was brave!" Poppy cried. "One little step at a time!"
The three friends flopped down together in the soft grass, right in the middle of the golden flowers, while the stream sparkled in the morning sun. "Being brave feels good," said Poppy.
And so, with warm sunshine and sweet flowers all around, the three friends smiled together. One small step, one slow breath — that is how being brave begins.
Being brave doesn't mean you never feel scared. It means taking one small step and one slow breath, even when something feels big. Poppy shows little ones that courage grows one stone at a time.
Ask your child: "When have you felt a little scared? What is one small step you could take?"
Try this: Next time something feels big — a tall slide, a first day, a new food — take one slow breath together, then one small step. Say it out loud: "One step at a time."
When something feels big, put a hand on your tummy. Breathe in slow… and as you breathe out, take one small step forward. One breath, one step — that's how brave grows, a little at a time.
