One evening in Glimmer Valley, the sky turned soft and pink, and it was time for Lantern Night — the night when every little friend lights a lantern to say goodnight to the day.
Milo the little dragon held his very first lantern. Tonight, he would light it all by himself. He took a big breath and puffed… but only a little puff of grey smoke came out. No light at all.
Milo tried again, and again. Puff. Puff. Still no glow. His shoulders drooped, and his eyes grew watery. "I can't do it," he whispered.
Glimmer the golden firefly floated down beside him, glowing warm and soft. "It's okay, Milo," she said. "You don't have to hurry. Let's take one slow breath together."
Milo sniffled, then breathed in slowly… and out. In… and out. His racing heart began to calm.
"Now," said Glimmer, "the light isn't only in the lantern. A little light lives inside you, too. Just believe it's there."
Milo closed his eyes. He thought of his friends, of warm mornings and sweet berries, and he felt something warm begin to glow, gently, right in his chest.
He opened his eyes, took one more slow breath, and breathed out softly toward the lantern. This time, a tiny golden flame flickered to life. The lantern glowed!
"I did it!" Milo gasped. "I really did it!"
And so, under a sky full of soft glowing lanterns, Milo held his warm little light close and smiled. Some things just take a slow breath, a little patience, and believing in the light inside you.
Believing in yourself takes patience. When something feels hard, a slow, deep breath can calm a worried heart — and trying again, with a little belief, helps the light inside shine. Milo shows little ones that it's okay to go slow, and it's okay to try again.
Ask your child: "When was something hard for you at first? How did it feel when you kept trying?"
Try this: Next time something feels tricky — a zipper, a puzzle, a new word — stop and take one slow breath together, then try again. Say it out loud: "I can go slow. I can try again."
Cup your hands together like a tiny lantern. Breathe in slowly through your nose — one, two, three — then breathe out gently, like you're warming your little light. Do it three times together and feel your calm glow grow.
