😴 A calm Glimmer Valley bedtime story

Milo Can't Sleep

Milo is wide awake and can't fall asleep — until Glimmer floats in to help him take one slow, sleepy breath and count the little stars, until he drifts off to dream.

The story

The moon was up over Glimmer Valley, and everything was quiet and soft. But in his cozy little bed, Milo the dragon was wide, wide awake.

He rolled one way. He rolled the other way. He fluffed his pillow and closed his eyes tight — but sleep just would not come. "I can't sleep," Milo sighed.

Then a soft golden glow floated in through the window. It was Glimmer, the little firefly. "I heard a sleepy dragon who can't sleep," she said gently. "May I help?"

Milo nodded. Glimmer settled onto the pillow beside him. "First," she whispered, "let's take one big, slow, sleepy breath. Breathe in like you're smelling a flower… and out like you're blowing a soft feather."

Milo breathed in slow… and out soft. His body felt heavier, cozier, warmer.

"Now," said Glimmer, "let's count the little stars, one by one." Milo looked out at the night sky. "One star… two stars… three little stars…" His eyes began to feel heavy.

"Four stars… five…" A big yawn stretched across Milo's face. Glimmer yawned too, a tiny sparkly yawn.

Milo's blinks grew slower and slower. The room was warm. The stars were soft. Glimmer's glow was gentle and low.

"Goodnight, Milo," Glimmer whispered. But Milo was already drifting… down… down… into a warm, happy dream.

And so, under the quiet moon, the little dragon slept, cozy and calm. One slow breath, a few soft stars — that is how sleepy dreams begin.

💛 What this story teaches

When it's hard to settle down, slowing the body helps the mind follow. A slow, sleepy breath and something gentle to focus on — like counting stars — tells a busy little body that it's safe to rest. A calm, cozy way to say goodnight.

🌙 Talk about it together

Ask your child: "What helps YOU feel sleepy and cozy at bedtime?"

Try this: At bedtime tonight, take one slow "smell the flower, blow the feather" breath together, then count five soft things you can see. Let your voice get slower and quieter with each one.

⭐ A little activity: the star wind-down

Dim the lights. Breathe in slow (smell the flower), out soft (blow the feather). Then find and count five little things in the room — whispering a bit softer each time: five… four… three… two… one… goodnight.
